Success Stories That Inspire Hope

Every mission is filled with moments that remind us why we serve. From life-saving procedures to simple conversations that restore dignity, CMANA’s work is measured in transformed lives. These success stories highlight patients who found relief, families who regained hope, and local providers who were equipped with new skills—proof that compassionate care can create lasting impact far beyond the trip itself.

Peter Aziz

Rebuilding Lives Through Complex Surgery + Training

Urologist Peter Aziz returned with a personal commitment to keep coming back. On this trip, he performed major pelvic reconstruction surgeries—about four surgeries a day, totaling 30 surgeries—despite limited equipment and resources.
What makes this story even bigger: he trained local physicians on procedures so they could continue helping patients after CMANA left, including enabling a senior fellow to perform specific procedures independently.

God Never Leaves You

Faith Tested, Mission Continued

Aziz also shared a powerful moment when he had a needlestick injury while operating and the patient was HIV-positive. He immediately started prophylaxis medication for four weeks and later tested negative.
This story reflects the reality of mission work—risk, sacrifice, and the faith that keeps volunteers serving.

Marian Khalil

Patients Are Our Teachers

General dentist Marian Khalil described mission work as “charging fuel.” As the only dentist on the trip, she was constantly surrounded by patients seeking relief. Her story highlights not only treatment—but the deep human moments: connecting with patients, restoring dignity, and learning humility through service.

The 8-Year-Old Patient

A Small Conversation, A Big Transformation

One of the most moving stories: a young girl (about 8 or 9 years old) with severe tooth decay needed multiple teeth removed. Khalil took time to talk with her about hygiene and self-care—then the child said something she would “always remember.”
The result was more than clinical care: the child left with renewed confidence.

Ayman Iskander

“God’s Miracles Were on Display”

  • Cardiac stents were expected to be unavailable—but were delivered just three days before arrival.

  • A pacemaker shipment was short by five, the company agreed to ship more overnight—then the “missing” devices were suddenly found delivered, and the company donated additional units—resulting in 15 pacemakers total for the team.
He also shared how mission intervention can be life-saving, including an ICU patient who needed a pacemaker.
